New Holland previewed the autonomous R4 robot series on 8 November 2025 (official news) and showed it at Agritechnica 2025. Official copy: no cab; managed via an app; controlled with GPS, LiDAR, and vision cameras. Future Farming (24 November 2025) adds Raven navigation software, six cameras (two front, two rear, two side), LiDAR obstacle detection, and a bumper that also acts as an obstacle sensor. Expected market 2027. No price on the official page or in Future Farming.
The machines were built by engineers at the CNH R&D Centre in Modena, Italy, and the New Holland Centre of Excellence for Specialty Harvesting in Coëx, France. Official: they share FieldOps and the same autonomy platform used on New Holland cash-crop and specialty machines. Both versions use suspended rubber-track drive units and an intelligent continuously-variable electric drivetrain. Official tasks include inter-row mowing, tillage, and spraying. The Robot Report (25 September 2026) quotes CNH’s Luca Ferrari that R4 is focused on vineyard and orchard work and performs mowing, tillage, and spraying.
Official: electrically powered by a 40 kWh battery pack; 0.7 m overall width; 1.38 m maximum height; weighs one tonne; works in 1.0–1.5 m crop spacings; custom hitch with 500 kg lift; can power electrically driven implements. Future Farming: the battery version has no PTO.
